Type Locality and Naming
Siwalik Gr. – middle formation in the Kohat-Margala Province (Ko-MP and the Trans Indus-Potwar Province (TrI-PP). Holotype section: Nagri village, Talagang District. Hypo: Gaj River section, Dadu District (Kirthar Range). Author: Lewis, 1937. Reference section: Lithology probably same as in the type section.
Lithology and Thickness
Sandstone. The formation consists of sandstone with subordinate clay and conglomerate. The sandstone is greenish grey, medium to coarse grained and massive. The conglomerate have different composition in different areas. In TrI-PP the pebbles consist of igneous rocks and Eocene limestone, and of Kirthar Fm in Sibi area, and nodules of clay and soft sandstone in the KrP.
Thickness: 500-3,500 m. The formation is 700 m thick at the type section. It is 500 m at Mahesian in eastern Potwar, 1,500 m at Khaur, 3,500 m in Surghar Range, 600 m in Urak area, 940 m in Gaj area.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Conformably underlain by Chinji Fm (transitional).
Upper contact
Conformably overlain by Dhok Fm (transitional).

Fossils
The formation has yielded fairly rich assemblage of vertebrate remains like Trilophodon angustidens var. palaeoindicus, Pentalophodon falconeri, Dinotherium indicum var. pentapotomiae, Giraffokeryx chinjiensis etc.
